The mosque's name is derived from two Muslim scholars, Shaykh Muḥammad al-ʿAjamī, who is buried in it, and Shaykh Khalīl al-Ṣayḥānī, a Hanafite mufti, who taught there in the 12th century AH. (Source: Tabbāʿ, vol. 2, p. 188.)
